Bully Culture at Victoria Hospital ('Lift Psychology', Swindon), Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Trust [AWP] Marianne spent 15 harrowing years pursuing justice, after losing her livelihood, mental stability and home when she whistle-blew malpractice and a bully culture at Victoria Hospital, Swindon. She was the second whistleblower. both of whom were ignored by AWP Senioirs, even after corroboration by their solicitor. Marianne's whistleblowing lead to a harrowing, vindictive hate campaign by the bully and her supports. Marianne's story (see tab, 'bullying at AWP') describes a falsified performance management, revenge attacks on her work & personality, a coverup by AWP seniors, including two psychologists & a Board member. Rather than unbiased investigation, apology & fair compensation, FOUR successive CE's refused to listen, likewise ignoring another disabled victim who came forward in 2019. Documents were hidden or tampered with, lies proliferating as staff dived for cover. This shameful episode has been airbrushed out of history by Lift Psychology, one of whose managers (Barbara Stapleton) spread malicious hearsay from Dr Howells (the vindictive bully who instigated false accusations in revenge for Marianne 'blowing the whistle' on their bully culture). AWP paid £thousands in legal fees to Bevan Brittan, which firm is liningtheir pockets with easy money; preventing victims from reaching Tribunal & draining NHS funds. Survival Kit for victims "I developed this 'survival kit' (Beating the Bully) after harrowing experiences at Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust, former Victoria Hospital, Swindon - now 'Lift Psychology'. My life was ruined by vindictive bully supports commandeering a dignity investigation. I lost my identity as cowardly colleagues 'disappeared,' leaving me scapegoat. AWP had two victim testimonies, including corroboration of a bully culture, by Trust solicitor, Mr Rahim Amarshi (the only decent professional from Bevan Britten) - yet AWP ignored all three of us.
My recovery from breakdown has been arduous. It has taken 15 years to resume my writing life, buried under years of false accusations and heart-breaking failures by investigative bodies. Arrogant, incompetent seniors blamed me for chaos they allowed to happen, in covering up for the bully - a half-mad Manager rampaged through what might have been a stable department given the right leadership. Sycophant Barbara Stapleton took over when bully Howells retired, nepotism continuing nearly a decade. Four successive CE's refused to accept responsibility - choosing to believe seniors like Stapleton, Dr Anne Booth and Christopher Stancliffe, who lied their way through a travesty of an investigation, hiding & altering document and aided by colleagues who simply disappeared in the woodwork instead of playing their part. I lost my home after being hounded out of an admin post at CAMHS, Bath - when Manager Peter Wilson instructed professional staff to ignore my cries for help. In despair, I attempted suicide.
Be assured,you can turn bad to the good - but recovery must become first priority. Becoming a campaigner has taken a huge chunk of time & energy, yet fighting injustice is bearing fruit as well as providing relief from emotional pain. Recovery is like a bereavement - you never get over the hurt but learn to manage pain. I do not have every answer but have gained much insight - a byproduct of pain. It is to the shame of Counsellors, Psychologists, Assistants, Psychiatrists & CE's, they failed to intervene, air-brushing history as do staff of Lift Psychology, who benefitted from the suffering of victims. Instead of seeing their deficiencies, sycophants and bully supports allowed a toxic culture to develop. AWP Board and four CE's practiced the same inattention as miscreant subordinates. That is why IW4U campaign for preventative measures. Testimonies from courageous whistleblowers are vital. Are you a whistleblower or a bystander? Toxic Firms Fail Victims Toxic firms are brilliant at reframing - spin, as politicians call it. AWP spin; 'we are prepared to overlook breaches of [Cot3].. [Marianne] has continued to make disparaging and derogatory statements about AWP.' 'we do not intend to reopen discussions' These are typical toxic behaviours by AWP rogue staff:
favoured subordinates allowed to cheat exams in return for support
disability or other discrimination of selected victim[s],
character attack on victim[s] by bully supports
sycophants promoted by bully / bully supports - leading to weak management down the years
vile hearsay spread about victim to HR / Board members
successive CE's never properly investigate subordinate's reports - allowing lies to fester down th years
attempting to silence victims with punitive court costs;
misrepresentation of victim[s] to all mediators, including MP's
using legal professionals to silence victims with prevention of fair settlement
failure to cooperate with investigatory bodies - see no 5; vile hearsay promulgated by successive toxic managers/ CE's
Bully cultures are subtle & easily misread. Blaming subordinates rather than investigating is favoured by lazy seniors - CE's airbrush organisational failings. AWP do not listen: I was labelled 'arrogant' for sending Tim Field's, 'Bully Insight,' to H.R. Manager Andrew Mitchell. This is why I DO NOT recommend whistleblowing until you have secured a post in a decent organisation.
